Privacy notice
What we collect, and why
Last updated 17 October 2026
In short
- We count visits with Google Analytics. You can turn it off on this page.
- If you join a beta waitlist, we keep your name, email and city only to send the invite.
- We don't sell your data, show ads, or share it with anyone except the services named below.
- Write to hello@againstobvious.com to see, fix or delete what we hold about you.
Who we are
This notice covers againstobvious.com, run by Against Obvious, an applied AI company in India. For anything about your data, write to hello@againstobvious.com. Our founder, Vivek Vishal, reads that inbox and answers privacy questions and complaints.
Our apps, such as Taana, will have their own privacy notices that explain what the app itself does.
Visit counting (Google Analytics)
We use Google Analytics 4 to see how many people visit, which parts they use, and roughly where they come from. It sets cookies (named _ga and _ga_…) to recognise a returning browser, and Google receives:
- the pages you view, the site that sent you, and your browser, device and screen size;
- an approximate location (city or region) that Google works out from your connection. Google Analytics 4 doesn't store your IP address;
- a few actions on the page: opening a project's story, tapping a sample spend in the Taana demo, playing the narration, clicking an email link, and opening or completing a waitlist sign-up. These events say which project or sample was involved, never your name or email.
Google processes this for us under its own terms, and it may be handled outside India. We see only totals and trends, not individual people.
Checking this browser…
This is saved in this browser only, so repeat it on other devices. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat that as a no and never load Google Analytics.
Beta waitlists
When you join a waitlist, such as the one for the Taana Android beta, we keep:
- your name, email address and, if you give it, your city;
- which product you signed up for, when you signed up, and the wording you agreed to.
We use them only to email you when that beta opens and to see which cities interest comes from. We don't keep your IP address with your sign-up.
To invite you to an Android beta, we add your email to the tester list in Google Play, which is how Google lets you install a test version. We do this only once the beta opens.
Sign-ups are stored privately with Vercel, our hosting provider, whose servers may be outside India. Only we can see them, from our admin area, which needs a password and a one-time code.
We delete your sign-up when you ask, and in any case within 6 months of the beta opening.
Waitlists are for people aged 18 or over. If you're younger, please don't sign up. If we learn that someone under 18 has signed up, we delete their details.
When you email us
If you write to us, we keep your message and address so we can reply and follow up. We don't add you to any mailing list.
Other services the site uses
- Vercel hosts the site. Like any web server, it briefly logs each request, including your IP address and browser, to keep the site running and secure.
- Google Fonts supplies our typefaces. Your browser fetches them from Google, which sees your IP address and browser as it would for any download.
- Narration. The "Listen" buttons use the voice built into your browser. Nothing you hear is recorded, and we don't receive anything from it.
Your rights
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal data we hold about you and who we've shared it with;
- correct it, complete it, or delete it;
- withdraw your consent, for example to leave a waitlist. This stops future use and doesn't undo what was done before;
- name someone who can use these rights for you if you die or can't act yourself.
Email hello@againstobvious.com from the address you signed up with. We'll reply within 7 days and act on your request within 30 days. If you're not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Changes
If we start collecting something new, we'll update this page and the date at the top before we do.
